Newton Girls Soccer recognizes that participating in youth sports can be expensive. It is our policy that no child should be denied the opportunity to play soccer due to their family’s financial situation. NGS is proud to offer assistance to any player with demonstrated need. Our financial aid program may be used to reduce or waive registration fees and – if appropriate – to offset the cost of uniforms, soccer equipment, and tournament fees. We also offer payment plans and a used gear swap to support all of our families. Reach out to confidentially explore your options.
To request financial assistance for any NGS program (except for the Academy), submit a confidential request. You will be asked to provide: player details, guardian contact information, amount (if any) that you are able to contribute towards the registration fee, and 1 – 2 sentences about why you are requesting financial aid.
Requests must be submitted at least 7 days before the program registration deadline. Financial aid cannot be applied retroactively. Once you have registered and paid, we cannot refund your money in lieu of a scholarship. NGS may request documentation of need.
To apply for an Academy scholarship, please email a completed application form and the required supporting documents to the Registrar
NGS offers partial fee waivers for our Academy Programs based on income and family size, as well as special circumstances or temporary hardships. We use the HUD Section 8 Income Limits for our region as a benchmark for scholarship eligibility. (See 2024 income table.)
Applications for financial assistance are confidential and do not impact whether or not a player is invited to participate in the Academy. An application should only be submitted after a player receives the invitation to join the program. Your child will not need to commit to the team until your aid request has been reviewed. If financial assistance is approved, we will send you registration instructions via email. An updated application must be submitted each year.
If your family does not qualify for financial aid and paying the registration fee will create hardship, please email the Registrar to set up a payment plan using a credit card. We are happy to work with you to get your child registered on time.
All NGS families may take advantage of our biannual soccer gear exchange. In late August and March, volunteers coordinate a swap for our community. Participants empty their closest of unused gear — cleats, jerseys, balls, shin guards, gloves, etc. — and find gently used gear that fits. A donation is not required. Attend to save a few bucks, help the environment, and give a deserving pair of soccer cleats and other gear a forever home. (Or at least a home until your daughter grows again.)
At the end of the event, any leftover gear is donated. This year, we were proud to support Boston Scores, which is in need of soccer cleats for players in grades 3 and older. Boston Scores partners with Boston Public Schools to provide urban youth in grades K-12 with after-school soccer and enrichment programs. Students, divided by gender, typically participate in Scores activities 3-5 days per week. This includes 2 days of soccer practices, 2 days of enrichment classes, and one soccer game day in which teams are transported to nearby soccer fields to play other Scores teams.
