Newton Soccer is investing in a new generation of soccer referees. Our mission is to help Academy participants build the confidence and skills necessary to successfully referee recreational soccer games. We help youth realize the benefits of refereeing in hopes that they commit to becoming USSF certified and officiating soccer long term.
NGS Referee Academy Program offers basic referee skill training using classroom materials, interactive field sessions, and internet videos. After initial training, staff assign participants to officiate NGS 2nd grade recreational games. We provide mentorship and ongoing feedback throughout the soccer season. As participants grow more confident and competent, they may be promoted to refereeing older age groups within the NGS City Program.
After gaining experience officiating recreational games, our most skilled youth referees take steps to become a USSF Certified Referee so that they may move on to refereeing competitive soccer games within the BAYS League. These players enter the US Soccer Referee Training Pathway at the Grassroots level. Participants must be aged 14 or older to take the entry level course: New Referee Orientation.
