Each year, NGS fields 30 – 40 travel teams for players in grades 3 -12 who represent NGS in spirited competition with teams from other communities. All on-time registrants will be placed on a team according to their school grade and skill level. Teams range from division 1 (highly skilled, highly competitive) to division 4 (less skilled, more recreational). The primary determination for placement is the evaluation prepared by each girl’s prior NGS coach, and secondarily by a girl’s performance in assessment sessions held the prior Spring of each Fall season. Friend requests are not accepted.
Teams are announced in July and stay together through the fall and spring. Teams are coached by trained parent volunteers. Teams also have opportunities to train with professional coaches during each season.
Commitment includes both the fall and spring seasons. Players are expected to prioritize their travel team commitment during the soccer season. Athletes who play private club soccer or other sports in the same season should only register for the travel program if they will consistently attend at least one travel team practice per week and make a sincere effort to attend every game.
Fall 2023
The 2023 fall season starts on Saturday, September 9 and ends on Saturday, November 11. Sessions are held on the Saturdays around holidays, including Rosh Hashanah, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day. Please take a minute to read our holiday policy.
Spring 2024
The 2024 spring season starts on Saturday, April 6 and ends Saturday, June 8. Sessions are held the Saturdays around NPS spring vacation (April 13 and April 20), Passover (April 27), and Memorial Day (May 25). Please take a minute to read our holiday policy.
Teams typically practice twice a week beginning the week prior to each season opener. A player cannot be in the travel program if they cannot regularly attend at least one practice per week.
Grade 3
One practice is held weekly on Mondays, 5:00 – 6:00 pm at Fessenden. This session includes all 3rd graders in the travel program and is run by professional coaching staff. The 2nd practice time and location are determined after teams are announced and will depend on field and coach availability. After teams are announced, coaches will reach out to families to discuss practice. Teams with a high percentage of players in the Academy program are asked not to practice on Wednesdays.
Grade 4

Grades 5 – 8

Coaches may also sign their team up to participate in special sessions run by our professional coaching staff throughout each season.
NGS Travel teams play in the Boston Area Youth Soccer league — or BAYS for short. Travel teams play a ten-game schedule each season with 5 home and 5 away games. (The furthest towns in BAYS are approximately 22 miles from Newton.) Games are typically Saturday mornings, but rescheduled games (due to, for example, rain outs) could be at other days and times. Players are expected to participate in all games. In case of an emergency, illness, or conflict with an important family, school or religious event, players must notify the team manager and/or coaching staff.
The game schedule is determined by BAYS and announced in August / March. The standard game times for each age group are listed below. These are only guidelines; some towns may require special game times.
