Online Registration

All registrations and club communications are managed online through Blue Sombrero. To register, please go to http://newtongirlssoccer.org/home/register/. Login to your existing Blue Sombrero account or follow prompts to create a new account.

We are still working out the kinks in Blue Sombrero. If you have questions or something doesn’t make sense, please email registrar@newtongirlssoccer.org.

Helpful Hints for Using Blue Sombrero

When you log in to your Blue Sombrero account and click “Register Now” you will see a list of available programs. This list is determined by your daughter’s date of birth. We tried to expand the eligible ages per program to include all girls in that grade but we may need to make adjustments. If the program you are looking for is not on the list, please email the NGS Registrar for help.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY TO ENSURE THAT YOU ARE REGISTERING YOUR CHILD FOR THE CORRECT PROGRAM, AGE GROUP, AND GRADE. Register for the school grade/age group that your daughter will enter in fall 2014, not her current grade. Programs that your daughter is not eligible for may appear if her birthday falls within the age range set for those program.

In order to honor friend requests (IM programs only), they must be mutual and both registrations must be received by the June 30 IM registration deadline.

You must answer all required questions before Blue Sombrero will allow you to move to the next screen.

For parents that would like to coach, please be sure to sign up as a volunteer when you register your daughter(s).

Register siblings at the same time to ensure a sibling discount.

We accept Master Card and Visa. If you need to pay by check, email the NGS Registrar.

When you are finished registering online you should receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation, please email the NGS Registrar to confirm your registration was successful.

Travel Uniforms

If your daughter needs a new travel uniform or jersey, you must order and pay for one when you register through your Blue Sombrero account by May 26. Please read the following before you place order:

If you aren’t sure of the correct sizes for jersey, shorts, and socks when you are registering, please select “Do Not Know” from the drop-down list in Blue Sombrero. You can edit the size later.

If you do not need a jersey, shorts, or socks this year, please select “Not Purchasing” from each of the sizing drop-down lists in Blue Sombrero. These questions must be answered in order to submit your registration form.

Determine correct sizing for jersey and shorts by trying on sample at Lapels Dry Cleaners, 318 Walnut Street. We will also have sample sizes available to try on at the assessments.

Sizes can be edited up until June 10. To edit your selection, log into your Blue Sombrero account and click “Edit Participant Info.” You will then see all of your daughter’s active registration forms. Scroll down to the fall 2014 form, make your changes, and click “update”. If nothing happens when you click “update”, it is likely because one of the required questions has not been answered. Please scroll through the registration forms and check that all fields are completed, even if it is for a current or past program.

Any jerseys ordered after June 10 may not be customized with the player’s name and number.

If a size is not available, you will receive the next larger size.

Uniforms cannot be returned once they are customized with your daughter’s name, player number and NGS patch.

Sibling Discount

If you are registering more than one child for an NGS program, you can receive a $20 discount for each additional player from the same family. Blue Sombrero will only automatically apply the sibling discount if you register 2 or more sisters in the same NGS program (e.g., both in travel, both in IM 3-8, both in J2, etc.). If your children play in different NGS programs, please email registrar@newtongirlssoccer.org BEFORE you register so that I can provide a $20 discount code.

Scholarships

It is the policy of Newton Girls Soccer that no girl should be denied the opportunity to play soccer due to her family’s financial situation. To confidentially apply for a scholarship, please email Ralph Ranalli, NGS President, at president@newtongirlssoccer.org.

About Travel Team Assessments

Assessments are only for travel teams. The information gathered from the assessment is used along with evaluations from a player’s current coach to formalize teams for the next season. In the event that a girl is unable to attend an assessment session, placement will be based solely on the player’s last coach evaluation, and/or whatever other data is available to the travel committee. There are no “make up” assessment sessions. All girls who register for travel teams before the May 26 deadline will be placed on a team according to her skill level.

Under the guidance of Shaun McBrien, NGS Director of Coaching, assessments are staffed by professional trainers and experienced coaches. During the assessment, players take part in a technical warm-up, 1v1 & 2v2 activities, and small-sided games appropriate to each age group. Each age group is broken down into smaller groups to allow our evaluators more time to observe players and help ensure players are placed on travel teams according to skill level.

The NGS Academy Teams are also formed based on these assessments. As per MAPLE league regulations, we cannot extend invitations to join the Academy until June 2 for U14 and June 9 for U10-U12. Once the travel team assignments have been made, players will be invited to join an Academy team based on assessment data and evaluations by their coaches and the NGS professional coaching staff. We will allow a relatively short time for families to accept / reject the offer and then we will extend invitations to other girls in that age group until the roster is complete. NGS currently runs one team per age group. If there is sufficient interest from the families at a particular age group, a second team may be formed as a dedicated “development” team with professional training one day/week but no weekend game. Academy teams will be announced by mid- to late-June.

Assessments for fall 2014 and spring 2015 seasons will be held May 27-June 2 at Weeks Field (tennis court side). See schedule below. Please register your daughter now even if she is unable to attend an assessment session.

Your daughter should attend the assessment for the age group she will be in in the fall. To participate in assessments, a player must be registered for the upcoming season.
