A message from Alicia Carrillo, Head Soccer Coach, Newton North High School:
Recently, I have been receiving email inquiries about pre-season dates. Exact times and sites are to be determined at an athletics department meeting in June. Here’s some of what folks need to know in order to plan ahead:
Pre-season for varsity and junior varsity soccer at NNHS begins Thursday, August 24. These sessions are designed as 1) try-outs for the varsity and junior varsity teams and 2) team training in preparation for the season. These sessions are meant only for those girls who wish to compete for a spot on the varsity and/or junior varsity roster. All sessions are mandatory for girls who wish to compete for a spot on the varsity and/or junior varsity roster.
It’s important to understand that decision-making about player placement begins on day one. For example, it’s possible that a ninth-grader who comes to try out on August 24 for v/jv will be asked to return to train with the Grade 9 team on August 28. If a ninth-grader interested in v/jv placement does not attend try-outs, she can come to August 28 training with the Grade 9 team and work toward progressing over time from the Grade 9 team to jv.
For girls interested in playing solely on the Grade 9 team, training begins Monday, August 28.
All players must register with the NNHS Athletics Department via familyid.com and have completed and submitted all paperwork by Wednesday, August 23 (v/jv candidates) or before noon on Monday, August 28 (Grade 9 team only).
Most girls who hope to play soccer at NNHS attend the Garden City Camp’s high school camp, August 21-23. This three-day skills and conditioning clinic is not mandatory; it is recommended for connecting with potential teammates and for reconnecting with the ball.
