To NGS players and former NGS players in grades 7 – 12:
If you are serious about soccer and would like to share your love of the game with younger players, please consider serving as an NGS Team Assistant or as an NGS Kindergarten/1st grade Assistant this spring! This is a great opportunity to give back to younger players, and earn a little money.
Here are the details of the program for the two types of assistants — K/1 Assistants and NGS Team Assistants. Please note that applicants for both programs must complete a Spring 2013 coaching application on-line by March 31. Priority will be given to assistants who have completed the “G” coaching license, on-line or in person. And, all assistants are expected to complete a training course with NGS’ Director of Coaching Shaun McBrien; that training session is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27 from 5:45 – 6:45 p.m. at Oak Hill.
The K/1 Assistant Program:
- Saturdays only.
- Open to High school players, and some grade 7 and 8 Middle school players, to assist at professionally-run sessions for K and 1st grade.
- Commit to assist at one (possibly 2) sessions, on 75% of the IM Saturdays.
- This is a commitment, assistants are expected to be responsible and to communicate directly and promptly with the scheduler.
- NGS season is 10 weeks long, for Spring 2013 it runs from Saturday 4/6 to Saturday 6/15.
- First grade sessions are at 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m. and are 75 minutes long.
- Kindergarten sessions are at 2 and 3:15 p.m. and are 60 minutes long.
- NGS will compensate assistants, at the end of the season, for sessions worked.
- Players who commit to the program are expected to be available, unless they communicate otherwise, in advance.
The Team Assistant Program:
- Saturdays and 1 or 2 weekdays.
- Preference will be given to high school players, varsity or junior varsity players.
- Effective assistants should have strong technical skills and be able to provide substantial assistance to the team’s head coach.
- Commit to help at team practices and at weekend games when available (minimum of 70% of the sessions) and to communicate with the parent coach about your availability.
- The NGS season is 10 weeks long, from Saturday 4/6 to Saturday 6/15.
- NGS will certify that HS Team Assistants earned community service “credits.”
- NGS will compensate those HS players who made the commitment and attended 70% of the sessions with an honorarium.
- Players will be assigned in pairs, when there is no parent “coach.”
- Individual players may be assigned to assist a parent coach.
- Players will likely be assigned to an intramural team (Gr 2 – 7/8), and Saturday game times are usually in the afternoon.
- Players could also be assigned to assist travel teams, and their Saturday BAYS game times are typically: U9 @ 10:30; U10 & U11 @ 11:45, U12 @ 10:30; and U13 & 14 @ 9 a.m., but game times may vary, and parent coaches are most likely to need help with practices.
