Juniors: 2nd Grade

Season Dates

The 10-week spring season starts on Saturday, April 4 and ends June 13, 2020.  Sessions are scheduled for both Saturdays of the Newton Public School spring vacation week (April 18 & 25). We will not meet on Saturday, May 23 (Memorial Day weekend).

Time, location, and match schedule listed below are provided for reference only and may change for the spring season. Details will be finalized in March.

Game Time & Location

The NGS Grade 2 Program (J2) games are held on Saturdays at Highlands Fields (A1-A5) at 1:00 pm and 2:15 pm.   Please arrive 15 minutes prior to kickoff. The weekly match schedule and field assignments are posted below and in your Postive Coaching Account (TPCA). Check the schedule each week for any changes.

Practice Time & Location

Teams will practice once per week.  Practice time and location are determined after teams are announced and will depend on field and coach availability. You may indicate your availablity when you register. After teams are announced, coaches will reach out to families to dicuss practice. Most J2 teams practice at a local elementary school field.

Teams

Players are assigned to teams with parent coaches. To find out your player’s assignment and view the team’s roster please visit http://try.thepositivecoachingapp.com/ngs to access your Positive Coaching Account (TPCA). Fall 2019 teams will be annouced in late August.

What to Expect

Game Format: Format is 4v4 with no goal keepers. Scrimmages are four 10-minute halves with a 2-minute break after the 1st quarter, a 5-minute half-time, and a 2-minute break after the 3rd quarter.

Key reminder: Please do not coach, direct or shout instructions to the girls from the sidelines.

What to bring/wear: Players should bring a size 3 soccer ball, water, and appropriate soccer attire (NGS Jersey, shin-guards and cleats).  You can buy all the gear online at http://newtongirlssoccer.org/store/juniors-uniforms/.

Snacks: Each family will be asked to volunteer to bring a nut-free snack for the 7-9 players on their team after one of the games.  At this age, the snack can be what the kids remember most!   Providing a snack is the responsibility of each team and will be organized by the team’s coach.

NGS Safety Policy: NGS has a strict NO JEWELRY policy. This means no earrings, no taped earrings, bracelets, necklaces or rings. Players may not wear beads, barrettes or other hard/sharp items. Players may not participate with casts or splints of any kind. Remember to remove all jewelry at home so that it does not get lost on the field. Please do not ask for special permission and make it difficult for the coaches.

For rainouts, check the NGS home page or fields page.  Field status is updated by 7am on Saturdays, but be sure to check just before your session time as conditions sometimes change.  You can also sign up for texts or tweets regarding field status by following @newtonfields.
