Referees Explained

The Newton Girls Soccer provides Intramural (aka NGS City League) and Academy team programs and participates in the Travel (BAYS League) program.  Referees, of the appropriate age and skill, are needed to participate and assigned to NGS City and BAYS Leagues soccer games.   The NGS organization is always looking for referees to get involved with Newton soccer and getting paid.  Newton is looking for

  1. Youth Intramural Referees (for NGS City Program)
  2. Youth and Adult USSF Certified Referees (for NGS Travel Program)

NGS offers the NGS Referee Academy to introduce any 6th Grade Middle School Students or older to the refereeing via a rigorous training, assigning and mentoring program.  NO previous referee experience is required. You will be assigned to games appropriate to your age and experience. This will improve your understanding of the game, it is fun, and you get compensated.  Interested applicants for NGS Referee Academy will need to contact the NGS Referee Committee for training and date information.

Once you are trained to be an Intramural referee, you may move on to become USSF Grade 8 Certified to be eligible to referee BAYS League home games for Newton teams.   Certification classes are held through the year.  There is no relationship between a student’s grade in school and their USSF referee grade.  For more information go to www.massref.net.
