NGS Players and Families,

NGS is calling all interested players to participate in this Sunday’s “Kicking Concussions” 3v3 tournament. The event will be held at 2 p.m., at Weeks Field (Paul Street side)

The tournament is being organized by Caroline Cohen, a former NGS player who in 2011 suffered a concussion while playing soccer in a Memorial Day Tournament. Following the injury, she was forced to miss school and, eventually, give up all contact sports.

Caroline is inviting all NGS girls, ages 9 to 14, to participate in this event. The winner of each of the three divisions – U10, U12, and U14 – will be awarded t-shirts and all entrants will be eligible for prizes from local merchants, including:

  • Tango Mango
  • JP Licks
  • Bill’s Pizza
  • The Deluxe Diner
  • The Greater Boston Running Company

As an added bonus, the new owners of Adolph’s Sports in Newton Center will be holding an NGS Gear “Yard Sale” at the event, featuring new, vintage and one-of-a-kind NGS-branded clothing and gear.

Signing up a team is simple. Just follow the following steps:

  1. Grab your two best friends (as long as you’re in the same age division)
  2. Think of a creative team name
  3. Put together a unique uniform
  4. Fill out the online form

After you register, you will be sent an injury waiver to fill out. The price per team is $30.

On the day of the tournament, bring the registration fee and a signed copy of the injury waiver for each player.

If you are paying by check, please address it to “Trustees of Boston University” with a memo of “Restrict to CSTE.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Boston University Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy, a research institute designed to further the study of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), degenerative brain disease that results from traumatic head injuries. Through this tournament, I hope to raise money for advanced research in the field, in addition to educating younger players about concussions.

Hope to see you there!
