2017-2018 Travel Program Assessment Schedule

Players are placed on travel teams according to their current level of soccer development.  We strongly encourage all players who are interested in being on a travel team to attend the assessment session so that we can make appropriate placements. Players who do not attend an assessment will be placed based on their coach’s evaluation.

Our practice is to re-assess players and form new 3rd grade Travel teams each spring.  In doing so, we can adjust placements according to skill levels and accommodate new players.  Our objective is to best meet the needs of our players by providing all of them with an opportunity to play with like-minded players in appropriately competitive settings.

Date: Monday, October 30, 2017

Location: Fessenden Turf Field A/Class of 1985

Session 1 Time: 5:00pm – 6:00pm, Girls with last names starting with A-L

Session 2 Time: 6:00pm – 7:00pm, Girls with last names starting with M-Z

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled session for check-in. Bring a soccer ball and water. It may be cold, so please dress in layers. In addition to shin guards and cleats, girls are welcome to wear sweatpants, hats and gloves but must not be wearing any jewelry or other hard objects. The field has lights.

There will NOT be a make-up date for the assessment. If you daughter cannot attend the assessment we will place her using Director of Coaching and team coach evaluations.

Instructions for current 3rd grade TRAVEL players:

If your daughter is currently on a 3rd grade Travel team, she is already registered for the spring season.  Do NOT register again.  If for some reason your daughter cannot play in the spring, please email registrar@newtongirlssoccer.org so that we don’t place her on a team.  All returning players should attend the October 30 assessments.

We recognize that new placements will result in some disappointment as girls may not be playing with the same complete group next spring as they are this fall.  Most likely they will be placed with multiple members of their current team, and many girls will still be playing for their current coach.  Please respect our carefully considered placement decisions.

Instructions for current 3rd grade CITY players:

If your daughter is currently on a City team, she may choose to either re-register for City soccer or move to the Travel program.

To play City soccer in the spring, no action is required at this time.  You should register your daughter during the January – March registration period.  An email will go out when spring City registration opens.  NGS will make a good effort to form City teams that are balanced and to honor mutual requests to be placed on a team with a friend.  No further evaluation will be required.

To play Travel soccer in the spring, register using Blue Sombrero by midnight on Sunday, October 29.  Select Fall 2017/Spring 2018 Travel Program3rd Grade (Spring Only) Division.  The fee is $150 and you must purchase a travel uniform if you don’t already have one.  If you register after October 29, we cannot guarantee that your daughter will be placed on a team and a late fee of $50 will apply.  We strongly recommend that your daughter attend the October assessment so that we can place her on the team best suited to her skill level.

FALL 2018

Your daughter should attend the assessment for the grade/age group she will enter in the fall.  To participate in assessments, a player must be registered for the upcoming season.
